2024 缅北禁地 Federal Employment Seminar
September 12-13, 2024
The 2024 Federal Employment Seminar was a resounding success as the largest Seminar yet with 196 Boren alumni and 46 government agencies in attendance. We are proud to say that 10% of attendees left Seminar with a conditional job offer from a federal agency. We hope everyone had a fantastic time and we look forward to next year's Seminar!
The 缅北禁地 Federal Employment Seminar is designed to provide a unique opportunity for Boren alumni to learn about employment in the federal government and kick start their search for a federal job. Held annually in early September, recently returned Boren Scholars and Fellows are invited to Washington, DC for this two-day event where they will hear from expert guest speakers about federal employment, including detailed information on service fulfillment and hiring authorities, information about the security clearance process, and strategies for applying to federal positions. Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from and meet with Boren alumni as well as network with their peers. All attendees may also sign up to have a professional headshot taken during the event.

There were 36 different federal agencies represented at the 2023 job information session.听
*The NSEP Service Team is pleased to offer individualized resume reviews over email prior to Seminar (and year-round!). The NSEP Service Team will review and provide feedback to any attendee that submits their resume by Friday, August 23. They will be reviewed on a first come first serve basis so earlier submissions will receive priority. To ensure attendees have enough time to incorporate feedback and print copies before Seminar, the team will have feedback ready by no later than Friday, September 6. We strongly recommend reaching out to the NSEP Service Team office before coming to DC to have your resume reviewed, ask any questions you might have about federal employment, and to inquire about interviewing and networking tips. You may reach their office at nsep@nsep.gov.
FAQ
When will I receive an invitation, and who is eligible to participate in Seminar?
All Boren awardees who have returned to the US in the prior year (by July 15, 2024 for this year) will receive an invitation to the 2024 September Seminar. Please note that only awardees who have not yet fulfilled their service requirement are eligible to participate, and awardees may only participate in one Boren Seminar event. Attendees must have finished all post-program requirements prior to Seminar.
The initial invitation will come from borenrecipients at IIE (please check your spam folder!) and will be sent to the email on file with the Boren team. If your email changes, please reach out to us to let us know!
Is attending the Seminar mandatory?
No. We welcome the participation of all invited awardees but this is not a mandatory event. Your participation has no bearing on your standing as a Boren awardee. If you can't make it this year, we hope you'll be able to join us the following year!
What if I can't attend this year?
If you are invited but not able to attend, please decline in the registration survey. You will have the option to indicate that you wish to be invited in a future year.听
Should I book my own travel?听
No. Please do not book your own travel, as IIE will not be able to reimburse you. We are pleased to share that all participating awardees can book their travel through IIE's travel management company, GBT. Please complete the registration survey, including travel details, and GBT will be in touch with you directly to confirm your flight or train ticket.听
I am local, but would still like a hotel room. Is this possible?听
Hotel rooms are reserved for those who are traveling in from out of town. We are so pleased to have our local Boren awardees attend, but if you are within 25 miles of the hotel we expect that you will commute to the event each day. Local awardees will receive a modest stipend to offset travel costs.
Will I have a roommate like at Convocation?
No. All participants at Seminar will have their own hotel room.
Can I bring my pet?听
No. Awardees are not able to bring pets as the hotel where the event will be held is not pet-friendly. Please make arrangements for pet care while you are attending the event in Washington, DC.
Service animals may accompany participants. Please let us know if you have a service animal and we will ensure the hotel is aware. Unfortunately, emotional support animals are not able to be accommodated.
