Devyani Mehta was a 2018 Boren Fellow who studies Urdu in India through the South Asian Flagship Language Initiative (SAFLI). She graduated from American University with a Master's in Global Governance Politics and Security. She also studied abroad in Lahore, Pakistan to learn Urdu through the UC Berkeley and U.S. Department of State BULPIP program. She now works at the U.S. Department of Defense as the Deputy Director of Civilian Harm Mitigation and Response in the Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict Office under the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy (OSD Policy). Previously, she worked as the Country Director for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Central Asia team in OSD Policy's Indo Pacific Security Affairs Office from 2021 to 2023.
